Defender (1998-present): a Power Metal band from Sweden.
The band Defender was the solo project of Philip Von Segebaden, former guitarist for the death metal band Afflicted. In this effort the focus was not on death metal, but on so-called power metal, leaning on Thrash as has been traditionally popular in Europe. But their interpretation of the style leaned more toward the edge of the style by featuring a wild variety of influences, including Iron Maiden melody with Manowar majesty and medieval sounding riffs. Their music was not groundbreaking by any stretch of the imagination but their debut They Came Over the High Pass (1999) under the membership Michael van de Graff (ex-Afflicted; vocals), Philip Von Segebaden (ex-Afflicted/ex-Cranium; guitar/bass) and Peter Nagy (drums). They have yet to record again.
