Anand (2001-present): a Heavy Metal band from Netherlands.
The self-named act formed by Anand Mahangoe was born in Suriname - South America on the 8th of January 1974 but quickly relocated to Holland where he has been since 1979. And to make it even more complicated, his ancestors are from India and Anand had lived in Hungary for 3 years! When he was 12 years old he chose to play the lighter 6 string guitar after years of interest and practice with Joe Satriani as an influence. So, after winning the prize of Best guitar player of Holland '96-'97, Anand decided to record his first CD called A Man's Mind on 'Lion Music' in 2001 with playing support for Tony MacAlpine with the line-up of himself with Csaba Tobola (drums), Egon Poka (bass), Gyula Gaspar (bass) and Rob Fahnrich (keyboards). In November 2003, Anand released his second CD Joy 4 Ever now with a band proper in the form of Mike Terrana (ex-Yngwie J. Malmsteen/ex-Tony MacAlpine; drums), Nick de Vos (bass), Rob Fahnrich (ex-Dream Theater/ex-Planet X/ex-Alice Cooper; keyboards), Derek Sherinian (keyboards) and Anand himself on guitar. The line-up was reset shortly after, however, when Anand changed the entire band for live shows to Barend Courbois (ex-Vengeance/ex-John Hayes; bass), Paul Thissen (ex-Vengeance/ex-John Hayes; drums) and Joost van den Broek (ex-Star One/ex-Ayreon/ex-Sun Caged; keyboards).
