Withered Earth (1995-present): a Death Metal band from Rochester, New York, USA.
It's a foregone conclusion that Rochester, New York had never seen anything like death metal act Withered Earth. They quickly went to work with their dastardly deeds, and the result was a premier demo in June of 1995 titled Abolish In Thorns. This recording dealt with the occult and the true horror of life now, and in the future. With this they claimed a stronghold in the heavy metal underground and declared a "new dark age of Metal". March 1996 saw the release of their second demo opus, Icaronycteris. Their premier album would soon follow. Forgotten Sunrise (1997) under the membership of Chris Burgio (guitars/vocals (backing)), Adam Bonacci (vocals), Ron Cortese (guitars/guitars (acoustic)) and John Paradiso (drums) gained national US distribution. Since then they have played with the likes of Morbid Angel, Incantation, Gorguts, Nile, Kataklysm, Entombed and the like, and it appears as they were well on their way to launching their "new dark age of Metal". Problem is the band was never stable. In 1995 they finally regrouped to eventually release Of Which They Bleed (2003) featuring the line-up of Jody Roberts (bass), Brian Spade (drums), Mark Locurcio (guitars), Chris Burgio (guitars/vocals (backing)), Adam Bonacci (vocals) and Randy Butman (bass/vocals (backing)) (most of whom were present for the previous recording) but then were soon not heard from again.
