Fist (1979-1984, 2001-2005, 2013-present): a NWOBHM band from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK.
Originally to be called Axe, Fist came to rise during the NWOBHM movement with Keith Satchfield (vocals/guitar), Dave Irwin (guitar), John Wylie (bass) and Harry Hill (drums). After a debut single on the 'Neat' label 'M.C.A.' snapped them up as a potential lucrative product for the rising NWOBHM movement, unfortunately Fist proved to be less of a market success than the 'big-wigs' had wanted, for their debut album Turn On The Hell (1980) proved to be lackluster over-all. Fist subsequently soon found themselves without a vocalist and record contract soon after. Two year's later the band would return with a completely different line-up of Glenn Coates (ex-Hollow Ground; vocals), John Roach (guitar) and Pop Appleby (bass) along with the returning Hill to release Back With a Vengeance (1982) back on the 'Neat' label. The act was anything but, however, and split shortly after. Their S.S. Giro track from said last album would appear on the Lars Ulrich (of Metallica) produced NWOBHM '79 Revisited compilation album in 1990 along with many other's of the era. Despite their regrouping (once again) under the line-up of Keith Satchfield (vocals/guitar), Martin Metcalf (ex-Fist; guitar), Big Al (bass) and Harry Hill (drums) the track remains as their as their only memorable contribution to history. The act reformed and broke up several times resulting in only one further recording in the form of Storm (2005).
Footnote: Do not confuse this Fist with the earlier Canadian band of the same name.
