Darkane

Biography

Darkane (1998-present): a Thrash Metal band from Helsingborg, Sweden.

I

n the beginning of 1998 Darkane rose out of the ashes of Agretator, an ill-fated but talented band that gave Watchtower a run for the money. The name formed from a portmanteau of the words "dark" and "arcane". When Agretator became history, drummer Peter Wildoer and guitarist Christofer Malmström teamed up with fellow six-stringer Klas Ideberg and bass player Jörgen Löfberg. This new outfit immediately began to crystallize a more aggressive, straightforward sound, both technical and brutal.

After two tracks on the seminal WAR Dance compilation, Darkaneemerged with their highly acclaimed 1999 debut Rusted Angel on the 'WAR Music' label. The vocal duties on this album handled by Lawrence Mackrory.

In 1999 Darkane got a new vocalist in Andreas Sydow, adding fresh ideas to their sound culminating in a second album Insanity (2001) released on 'Nuclear Blast'.

Expanding Senses(2002) was the third effort that took almost three months in the studio to record the nine tracks of the opus. The guitar and bass parts were recorded at their home studio, while the drums, vocals and the final mix were done by Daniel Bergstrand at Dug-Out Studio (Meshuggah (Sweden), In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, and others) resulting in an album mixing the heaviness of Rusted Angel and the modern sound of Insanity in a style combining thrash metal, death metal and old fashioned heavy metal.
