Elfonia

Biography

Elfonia (2001-2006): a Progressive Metal band from Monterrey, Mexico.

E

xperimental rock band Elfonia came from Monterrey, Mexico, its sound a combination of a wide variety of influences, such as doom metal, punk, and progressive metal featuring vocal melodies playing a fundamental role.

The band's beginnings date to 2001, when Alejandro Millán (keyboards) and Marcela Bovio (vocals/violin), after leaving their previous band Hydra, started working together in a new musical project. In November 2002, the band had the opportunity to perform as a supporting act for Haggard and Ataraxia, in a concert promoted by a major cultural festival in Monterrey. Millán and Bovio contacted Roberto Quintanilla (guitar), Pablo González (bass) and Javier Garagarza (drums) as guest performers to complete the band's line-up and by the end of the year, the band had recorded their first full-length album as an independent production. Released in late February 2003, the self-titled album received excellent reviews and comments from music connoisseurs and fans all over the world. The success wouldn't last, however, for after the release of the follow-up, This Sonic Landscape (2005) the act split a year later with Millán and Bovio going on to play for Stream of Passion.
