Pentagram Chile

Biography

Pentagram Chile (1985-1988, 1991-1992, 2001, 2009-present): a Death Metal band from Santiago, Chile.

O

riginally named just Pentagram in 2012 the band changed their name to not conflict with the more famous American band of the same name.

Influenced by the likes of Venom, Slayer and Possessed, Pentagram was formed in 1985 by Anton Reisseneger (lead guitar/vocals) and Juan Pablo Uribe (bass). Sporting only a couple of originals and some covers, Pentagram debuted December 28, 1985 with Eduardo Topelberg from the act Chronos on session drums but due to lack of experience these first gigs did not turn out as planned.

The following year, the act featured Marcelo Ulloa now on drums for only one show. With three original songs, and after hiring Topelberg back as a permanent drummer, they recorded their first demo in January of 1987 on a shoestring budget. Soon after, Reisenneger traveled to Brazil with a friend, invited by Max Cavalera (Sepultura). During this sojourn an independent record label offered a record contract, but then never heard from again.

After returning to Chile, the band met bass player Alfredo "El Bey" Peña, who replaced Uribe when he switched to second guitar. On September of 1987 the band recorded their second demo, improving the songwriting to feature longer playing times and more intricate riffing.. During this time, former Celtic Frost roadie, "Dinosaur" Surocco, offered the guys recording time for a 7'' through underground Swiss label 'Chainsaw Murder Records'. The idea materialized with the Fatal Predictions/Demoniac Possession EP (1987).

For various reasons, but specifically that no label in Chile or internationally wanted to sign them, Pentagram disbanded. In 2000, 'Picoroco Records' released both demos on CD format along with live recordings. In 2001 the band reunited for one gig in which they played all the songs from the demos plus a couple covers and tunes that never got recorded: the more hardcore Pigs (inspired by the repressive Chilean police) and Demented now under the line-up of Reisenneger, Uribe, Topelberg and Cueto from Criminal doing bass duties since due to the death of Peña.

In 2013 the band would release their only full-length, The Malefice under the line-up of Dan Biggin (bass), Juan Pablo Donoso (drums), Juan Pablo Uribe (guitars) and Anton Reisenegger (vocals/guitars/bass (track 7)).
