Archetype

Biography

Archetype (1997-present): a Progressive Metal band from Brecksville, Ohio, USA.

I

n 1997, Chris Matyus, a fresh Classical guitar Performance graduate of the University of Akron in Ohio, decided to form a band simply known as Prototype. Chris teamed up with Jamie Still for bass and Keith Zeigler (ex-Blind Ambition) on drums. As a threesome instrumental act they performed locally until 1998 when they entered the studio to record their debut self-titled instrumental mini-CD Archetype. Shortly after, they would sign with Denmark's 'Intromental Management' for sale of their second outing, the four-track mini-album Hands of Time, with Chyle Vagner now on vocals in early 1999.

In early 2000 their first full-length album emerged with 'Intromental'. The band, however, was unsatisfied with the quality of production 'Intromental' had done and so parted ways with them to re-release the album in 2001 under their own production with the same title of Dawning. The album was their true coming out, coming across as professional and ready and lacking the pretentiousness that often accompanies progressive bands of their style. They have been silent thus far since.
