AtrophyBiographyAtrophy (1986-1993, 2015-2020, 2021-present): a Thrash Metal band from Arizona, USA. F itting in line with the sounds and styles of Exodus and Forbidden, Atrophy (originally named Heresy) formed in 1986 featuring Brian Zimmerman (vocals), Chris Lykins (guitars), Rick Skowron (guitars), James Gulotta (bass) and Tim Kelly (drums). They released their first demo, Chemical Dependency (1987), with the second, Advanced Promo following less than a year later getting them a deal with 'Roadrunner Records'. The two albums that followed, Socialized Hate (1988) and Violent by Nature (1990) saw Atrophy tour the US and Europe, or play selected shows, with the likes of Slayer, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Sacred Reich, Dark Angel, Forced Entry, Coroner, D.R.I., Flotsam and Jetsam, Death Angel and Venom despite the second album leaving critics to claim that the second lacked the spark of the first. Following their 1990 European tour with Sacred Reich and Venom, Lykins left the band to pursue a medical school, and as a consequence, Atrophy was dropped from 'Roadrunner'. Attempts were made in the early 1990s to continue without Lykins and record a third album, but by 1993, however, the band had broken up.
