Mithotyn

Biography

Mithotyn (1992-1999): a Black Metal band from Mjölby, Sweden.

O

riginally formed under the name Cerberus, Mithotn was founded by Christian Schütz (bass/vocals) and Stefan Weinerhall (vocals/guitar) in August 1992 where they released a single demo; subsequently changing their name to Mithotyn in February 1993. During the summer of 1993, Schütz and Weinerhall were joined by Karsten Larsson (drums) and Karl Beckmann (vocals/guitar/keyboard) to complete the line-up.

After the recording of their first demo, Behold the Shields of Gold (May 1994), Helene Blad (vocals) joined the band. Two months later they recorded a promo called Meadow of Silence. In November 1994 Schütz left the band to be replaced with Rickard Martinsson. Their third demo, Nidhogg, arrived in April 1995, but soon after, Heleneleft the band due to differing artistic opinions. By now, however, the act had attracted the attention of some record companies but the band turned them all down as they felt the offers weren't good enough. The band then went ahead and recorded another demo to seek out new recording prospects in the form of Promo 96 (1996); this time they were offered deals they liked better and 'Invasion' got the nod.

In April 1997 Mithotn released their debut album entitled In the Sign of The Ravens, featuring Weinerhall and Beckmann with new members Rickard Martinsson (bass/vocals) and Karsten Larsson (drums). Not wasting any time, the act went right to work on their second opus, King of the Distant Forest (1998) with Andy LaRoque at production; the follow-up, Gathered Around the Oaken Table, followed in 1999 shortly before the act split. The three albums have since been re-released on 'Hammerheart Records'.
