Cronic Disorder

Biography

Cronic Disorder (1995-2002): a Death Metal band from Cherryville, North Carolina, USA.

C

ombining elements of old school thrash metal coupled with the sounds of death metal (growls and all) including unique non-instrumental sounds like teletypes and modems as well as traditional fare, Cronic Disorder (founded c. 1995 in Cherryville, North Carolina, USA. featuring Doug Canipe (bass/vocals), Chip Whitesides (guitar), Brad Sellers (drums) and James Ford (guitar)) launched their premier album, the independently financed and produced Dead To The World in 1999 to the unsuspecting public. Cited as both humorous and heavy, the album was universally touted as 10 out of 10 on just about every media source that got its protuberances on a copy. It was quoted as being the evolution of death metal after almost 10 years of stagnation of the genre. The band even offered the bonus of promoting their work vigorously, allowing it to sell out at every location that carried it. For a time, it was the best seller at 'Diskery' on-line music retail division. It was a high quality, highly professional production that excelled past the indie scene that supported it, even if it still didn't have major backing or distribution.

America missed the boat on this one, however, and a year later, Denmark's 'Mighty Music' signed them. They immediately stopped promoting the old disc in favor of contractual obligations, which did not apparently include their old homegrown distribution and support system. Their second outing, Torture Test, (2001) received poor distribution and resulted in nothing but silence after 2002.
