Slash's Snakepit

Biography

Slash's Snakepit (1994-1995, 1998-2002): a Hard Rock band from Los Angeles, California, USA.

T

he act Slash's Snakepit was a supergroup founded by runaway Guns N' Roses guitar man Slash (Real Name: Saul Hudson) as an outlet for his bluesy hard rock passions outside of the confines he experienced in the worsening musical relationship that was ripping G N' R apart. He first recruited fellow Guns N' Roses buddy Matt Sorum on drums but he would soon leave before the debut album's release. He also brought in Gilby Clarke on guitar, Eric Dover (ex-Jellyfish; vocals) and Mike Inez (ex-Alice In Chains; bass).

Partially written by Dover, the debut album, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere (1995), featuring the membership of Slash (lead and rhythm guitars/slide guitar/backing vocals/production), Eric Dover (vocals), Gilby Clarke (rhythm guitar/backing vocals), Mike Inez (bass, backing vocals) and Matt Sorum (drums), filled the void that G N' R failed to fill, at least in part, and the hungry G N' R fans bought it up to give it a 70 in the US (15 UK). The solos and bluesy songs were taken on tour and upon return Slashpromptly quit Guns N' Roses to much hype and speculation; a move that led to that act's demise.

Slash's Snakepit was thought dead, but in 2000 Slash recruited a whole new act with Matt Laung (drums), Ryan Roxie (guitar/vocals), Jack Douglass (sitar/vocals) and Rod Jackson (vocals), as well as himself still on guitar, to quietly release Ain't Life Grand in 2000, a low key affair that got a very low key notice. Slash would move on to solo activities, and in 2004, the Velvet Revolver supergroup project.
