Bloodbath was basically a super group featuring some of Sweden's finest, a break from their day jobs if you like, to go back to basics of old-school brutal Death Metal, including Mikael Åkerfeldt (of Opeth; vocals), Anders Nyström (ex-Katatonia/ex-Bewitched/ex-Diabolical Masquerade; guitars/back. vocals), Dan Swanö (ex-Edge Of Sanity/ex-Nightingale/ex-Dan Swanö/ex-Godsend/ex-Pan-Thy-Monium; drums) and Jonas Renkse (of Katatonia; bass/back. vocals). The original plan was to release only the one EP, Breeding Death in 2000, but it was later decided to make it an on-going operation, and the second release (the first full-length album), Resurrection Through Carnage, resulted in late 2002.
In March 2004 a lineup shift occurred with Hypocrisy vocalist Peter Tägtgren taking over for Mikael Åkerfeldt and drummer Martin Axenrot joining the band replacing Dan Swanö who switched from drums to guitars to work has on a new upcoming album.
