Metamorphosis was not a band in the true sense of the word, but rather more of a solo project with the other musicians basically coming along for on the ride. All the instruments on the albums were played by one single person, Boris Ascher, the act was seen live with a selection of other people.
Founded in 1993 by Boris Ascher, who had learned after many years in diverse underground bands to play all the instruments by himself, the first demo-tape was released in 1994 under the title Life Is Just A Joke featuring M. Scherz (bass/keyboards) and M. Hellmann (vocals on one track). In 1997, Metamorphosis (as a one man act) contributed a song to the Out Of The Box Vol.1 compilation CD on the Swedish label Black Mark Productions'.
The first full-length CD Through The Gate Of Dreams followed in 1998 with M. Hellmann as guest on vocals as an independent recording. The album gained first-class reviews in the international music press and underground scene. The second full-length album, Nocturnal Rhymes, was released in 2001 as a solo effort and quickly became a staple for songs performed at live shows. December 2003 saw the follow-up, Gnosis Diabolo, a 60 minute philosophic, satanic musical document released on the The Devil's Ground Productions' label with the live act now featuring Michi (of Odem Arcarum; guitar), Martin (of The Ausstellung; bass) and Willy (of The Ausstellung; drums), a release that was followed by a re-issue of Nocturnal Rhymes with new artwork on their current label.
