Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction
ormed in 1985, Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction projected their image as everything from sex maniacs, party animals to leather-clad bikers. Assembled by former graphic artist Zodiac (Real Name: Mark Manning; vocals) they would become the ultimate in sci-fi metal bands with twin guitarists Cobalt Stargazer and Flash Bastard, with Trash D. Garbage (bass) and Slam Thunbderhide (drums). Influenced by Alice Cooper, The Stooges and Motorhead they would release the mini-album debut High Priest Of Love (1986) on the independent 'Food' label. They would be subsequently picked up by 'Mercury' to release Tattooed Beat Messiah (1988), an album that was formulaic but managed to spawn minor hits in the form of the tracks Prime Mover and Back Seat Education, tracks accompanied by expensive and controversial videos. But they were unable to quickly follow-up and with no new ideas the band split in 1989.
In 1991 Zodiac reformed the act with Stargazer, Thunderhide and Suzy X (bass) to release the single Elvis Died For You. Despite signing to European label 'Musidisc' to release Hoodlum Thunder (1992) no further progress was made and the act is assumed dead.
Manning later lived up to his reputation by collaborating with the KLF's Bill Drummond in 1994 on the semi-pornographic work, A Bible Of Dreams.
