XC-NN

Biography

XC-NN (1990-1996): a Industrial Metal band from Leeds, UK.

T

he electro-industrial rockers XC-NN was started as CNN by ex-All About Eve/ex-Sisters Of Mercy guitarist Tim Bricherno with vocalist/guitarist David Tomlinson and drummer Neil Lambert. Their debut was on 1992's Hot Hired Monstertrux compilation with the track Looking Forward To The Day (I Stop Breathing), a nihilistic but up-beat song. Their Young Stupid And White EP followed with a campaign encouraging fans to nominate celebrities they thought fit that description with weekly winners featured on that week's advertising. The Looking Forward To The Day... was re-recorded for their Copyright EP featuring a sampled into from 2 Unilimited's No Limits that forced legal action from Peter Waterman, but that legal case paled in comparison to the action taken by the massive Cable News Network (CNN) that forced a name change on behalf of the band, and to retain a sense of identity with the present XC-NN name.

Finally gaining a bassist in the form of Nick Witherick for their debut album proper XC-NN (1994), many people believed them to be nothing more than a gimmick band and the lack of new information makes one believe that conclusion might have been true and are probably gone. After the follow-up, Lifted (1996), they were not heard from again.
