Strange Flesh

Biography

Strange Flesh (1986-present): a Progressive Metal band from Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.

T

he band is based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Out of frustration at the lack of European style metal bands in their area Strange Flesh formed in 1986 to answer the call. After releasing several demos and garnering much record company interest, the band fell victim to too much party, and apparently not enough metal! guitarist Dave Harrington, the founder and remaining member, decided serious decisions and changes were in order. He kept the band going through various, and necessary line-up changes till 2000 when a solid, more dependable line-up started to evolve. These line-up changes would include current members Julian Lagos (drums), Dave Harrington (guitars) and Ryan Moore (vocals) and past members Chris Houghton (bass/vocals), JD Bradshaw (guitars; ex-(JD Bradshaw, Wartanas, Killer Elite, Pendragon, Red Alert), Brett Evans (guitars) and TW (vocals).

The band started writing songs for the CD that would later be titled Dead, Empty Souls. The album was released independently to much critical acclaim; widely considered a dark brooding slice of metal with an underlying religious theme asking, "Is there a God, and why do we all suffer at his hand?" But the core of the band still found something lacking and another line-up change was imminent. For the next album , Chainsaw Lullabies, Harrington and Houghton wanted a heavier, more technical album. Enter Juan Lagos, a Chilean born drummer. With a blistering double-bass style matched with finesse and power, Lagos seemed a perfect match for the act. The albums In doG We Lust (2010), Aeturnus (2014) and Whisper the Black (2016) would follow.
