nder the original moniker of Anonima Disastri, Deforge would start in November 1997 by brothers Gaetano and Gianfranco Ettorre (guitar and drums respectively) who would recruit Domenico D'Eugenio on bass shortly later while the first songs were being written. After several attempts at completing the line-up, Giovanni Caporaletti would finally be found to take over the second guitar slot while Gaetano switched to vocals in time to record their Mankind Disaster demo and the subsequent live concerts. They would then make the finals in the Altrisoni 2000 national music contest. Personal conflicts caused Giafranco to leave the band shortly thereafter with Michele Melchiorre (ex-Sothis/ex-My Dark Sin) taking his place to record five new songs culminating in a second demo by the title of Silent Terror Inside in released in 2001 now evolving more into a Swedish thrash/death hybrid. In 2002 the act decided to change their name to Deforge in an attempt to match their name more closely to their new found style. They would then perform several live concerts culminating in their Back To Life track being included on the 'Dawn Of Sadness' records compilation Screams From Italy Vol. VI, along with being included on three more compilations, Wildcompilation Vol. 3, Atlandtida Vol. 16 from the Lithuanian label 'Atlantida Productions', and Vox Mortus No. 6 from 'Vox Mortis'.
In 2002 the act's third opus, Freedom Release, featuring more technical and melodic tracks than ever before, arrived. But the excitement wasn't to last for Domenico left to be replaced by Giuseppe Pirozzi and later that same year Deforge joined 'Il male Productions' to have their Immortality track included on their I Fiori Del male Vol. 1. In 2003 they would tour heavily and, for the second time, made it into the finals for Rumori di Dentro competition, along with taking part in two more compilations with Metal Mine #2, and Escape From The Ghetto by 'Kick Promotions'.
