Pestilence

Biography

Pestilence (1986-1994, 2008-2014, 2016-present): a Death Metal band from Enschede, Netherlands.

G

uitarists Randy Meinhard and Patrick Mameli started Pestilence in 1986 and recruited Martin Van Drunen (vocals/bass) and Marco Foddis (drums) to complete their line-up. Singing to 'Roadrunner', the act attempted to establish themselves in the fertile German thrash metal scene with their debut Mallevs Maleficarum (1988). Mainhard departed to form his own act Sacrosanct with Patrick Uterwijk recruited in time for their follow-up Consuming Impulse (1989). The album also saw the debut of Tony Choy (bass) and Kent Smith (keyboards). By this time Pestilence was gaining momentum with the death metal community but just as their notoriety was gaining influence they were served another helping of bad news with the departure of Van Drunen, who started his own outfit Asphyx. Mameli took over his duties and added new bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling to squeeze out two more albums, Testimony of the Ancients (1991) and Spheres (1993), before they busted up in 1994. Their final act would be the "best of..." compilation titled Mind Reflections, released that same year by 'Roadrunner' posthumously.
