Abattoir (1982-1987, 1998-2005, 2008, 2018-2019): a Speed Metal band from Los Angeles, California, USA.

sing another name for a slaughterhouse, Abattoir opened up shop in 1982 with Mel Sanchez (bass), Mark 'The Shark' Caro (guitar) and Juan Garcia (guitar) and would soon after hire Rawl Preston (vocals) and "Danger" Wayne (drums; who had replaced original drummer Ron Gonzales). After their debut performance at the Troubadour Theater they began to record, except without Preston who had been replaced with John Cyriis (ex-Sceptre). Their Screams From The Grave demo track made onto the various compilation Metal Massacre IV (1983). With their Ramones meets Black Sabbath speed metal style they got support slots with W.A.S.P. and Metallica, but without the help of Wayne who was replaced by Danny Anaya (R.I.P 2017) would leave in 1987. But soon after, Cyriis and Garcia took off to form Agent Steel to be replaced with Steve Gaines and Danny Olivero (ex-(Anger as Art, Bitch, Final Decree)) respectively to record their 1985 'Combat' debut album Vicious Attack featuring a cover of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades.

Gaines was the next to leave when he joined Bloodlust so Mike Towers took his place on the follow-up album The Only Safe Place (1986). Although less abrasive, the album and new membership wasn't enough to hold the act together and Sanchez left to form Evildead; the act split in 1987.

With the line-up of Steve Gaines (bass/vocals; ex-(Anger as Art, Pagan War Machine, Tactics, Steve Gaines, Bitch, Bloodlust, Dreams of Damnation)), Mark Caro (guitar), Mel Sanchez (ex-Evildead; guitar) and Kevin McShane (drums) they reformed in 1998 due mostly to a resurgence in popularity with the re-release of their albums by 'Century Media'. Writing then commenced for an album under the working title of "Evil Incarnate" but it never arrived. After a demo in 2000, another in 2004, and a live album in 2001, No Sleep 'til Kalamazoo - Live! - a name influences surely by Motorhead's live album No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith, the band split again in 2005. Another attempted reformation in 2008 of unknown length amounted to even less (try nothing).

The band tried again, reforming in 2018 under the membership of Caro, Gaines and Oliverio, along side Eric Bryan (bass) and the 2008 only reformation member of Rob Alaniz (drums; ex-(Anger as Art, Evildead, Bitch, Noctuary, Winterthrall, Faeost, Fat Halen, H8torade, Necrophilia, Riseinc, T.U.B.B., Tdomayki, Krieg, Rise, Despise You)). With no recordings, the act split again the next year.
