Mudvayne (1996-2010, 2021-present): a Nu-Metal band from Peoria, Illinois, USA.

ollowing the self-financed debut set Kill I Oughta (1999), featuring founding members Kud (Real Name: Chad Gray; vocals), Gurrg (Real Name: Chad Tribbett; guitar), Ryknow (Real Name: Ryan Martinie; bass who replaced an unknown original member by the second release) and sPaG (Real Name: Matt McDonough; drums), they were singed to 'Epic' for their follow-up offerings of L.D. 50 (2000), The Beginning of All Things to End (2001; actually a re-release of their debut but with an extra track added) and The End Of All Things To Come (2002). Despite being compared to the style of Fear Factory, Korn, and more directly Slipknot, they have managed only a basic pedestrian thrash metal sound with nu-metal highlights. Their fetish for face paint, a look they downplayed claiming that their music came before the image, did not go unnoticed. Their second effort managed a US 85 ranking while the rest assisted in gaining them large-scale exposure during the Metallica 2003 Sanitorium Tour. They have since toned down their stage image while drifting more into the nu-metal style with their 2005 effort, Lost And Found.

In 2006, Gray, Tribbett and Tom Maxwell joined former Pantera and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul to form the super-group Hellyeah.

After a tour with Sevendust, Mudvayne released the By the People, for the People (2007), an album generated by compiling selections chosen by fans on the band's website. The album debuted at number 51 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling some 22,000 copies in its first week. The New Game would follow the next year.

In 2009, the band hoped to create a "white album" concept that many bands before them had successfully done by using only a blank white cover. The resulting self-titled work was printed using blacklight paint, making it only visible by using a "black light" (a.k.a. an ultraviolet bulb).

In 2010, Mudvayne paused to allow Gray and Tribbett to tour with Hellyeah; Hellyeah's subsequent album releases would ensure that Mudvayne would remain on hold until 2014. As it turns out that work stoppage became permanent.

Back in 2012, Martinie toured with Korn as a temporary replacement for bassist Reginald Arvizu who remained at home during his wife's pregnancy.

In 2015, Tribbett and McDonough formed "progressive hard rock" act Audiotopsy with Skrape vocalist Billy Keeton and bassist Perry Stern.

On April 19, 2021, Mudvayne announced that they had reunited and would play their first shows in 12 years in the fall. Those shows were delayed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
